Russian forces pounded Ukrainian territory with missile and drone attacks overnight on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday, concentrating on the major western city of Lviv region.

Ukraine's neighbour Poland deployed combat aircraft to guarantee the security of Polish airspace, the Polish military announced. NATO partner planes were similarly activated.

Regional governor local authorities reported two individuals were killed in attacks in the region, and two more wounded.

In other developments, Russia once more struck energy infrastructure - and a facility was hit in an overnight attack on Zaporizhzhia, where the city official reported an individual died and more than 73,000 people were lacking power.

Defensive Measures

The Russian assaults came shortly following a US official said the United States would endorse Ukrainian forces conducting long-range attacks within Russia's borders.

"Polish and allied aircraft are active in Polish skies, while ground-based air defence and surveillance radars have been activated at maximum alert level," military officials said.

At early morning, all of Ukraine was under air raid alerts following air defense warnings of Russian missile and drone attacks.

Infrastructure Damage

Russia has intensified its assaults against the country's power grid.

The city's administration Andriy Sadovyi said several districts - 43 miles from the Polish frontier - had no power, adding that the city's air defence systems were actively involved in repelling first a drone and then a missile strike.

As of 07:30, multiple areas were left without power and public transport was not operational, with Sadovyi emphasizing that it was "unsafe to go out into the streets".

In Zaporizhzhia, Russia's overnight attack left "more than 73,000 consumers... without electricity", according to Ivan Fedorov.

An individual was fatally wounded, and nine others hurt, authorities said.

A 16-year-old girl was one of those receiving medical assistance, officials noted, releasing images apparently showing a damaged apartment building and a destroyed vehicle from the site of the attack.

Wider Consequences

Municipal transit in Ivano-Frankivsk, would "begin operations with delay" on Sunday, its mayor announced.

The series of attacks were components of Russia's threats against the whole of Ukraine overnight.

At around early morning, Ukraine's Air Force said the entire territory was facing danger of new missile strikes, following prolonged alert periods and notifications of drone and missile attacks.

Occupied Regions

Moscow's troops have occupied the majority of the Donbas area, including Luhansk and Donetsk.

Russia currently controls around one-fifth of Ukraine's land, including the Crimea region, which it annexed in 2014.

Global Developments

In Russia, anti-aircraft systems eliminated 32 Ukrainian drones during the night, media outlets reported on Sunday.

Last week, a US Special Envoy said that the United States would back Ukraine launching deep strikes inside Russian territories.

Meanwhile, a different NATO country - Lithuania - had to close its airspace briefly after unidentified items were detected.

Authorities halted air traffic at its largest and busiest international airport for multiple hours, before resuming operations at early morning on Sunday.

The aviation authorities stated the flight suspensions and reroutings were "due to a potential stream of aerial objects approaching the aviation facility".
